Tuomas Nyholm (b. 1976) is a Helsinki-based Finnish journalist, who has made his career covering hockey for one of Finland’s biggest newspapers.
After completing military service in naval forces 1997, Nyholm started to study theology in Helsinki University, but got a chance to write some sports news late 1998. Year later he was made a staff reporter. In 2002 he was promoted to a news editor of sports. In 2005 he moved to Toronto to be an NHL correspondent for the two papers. After covering two NHL-seasons he returned home in 2007 and became the news editor. Nyholm won the Ilta-Sanomat Journalistic Award in 2008 for creating an online-format called Videotuomarit (Video Judges), where he and he’s colleague talked about hockey thoroughly and straight forward. Some time after coming back from Canada, Nyholm decided to try to make a dream since boyhood true and write a novel. My Blood in Thine was published on March 2010, right after Nyholm came back from the Winter Olympics. The events take place in Toronto, Canada. Nyholm wanted to locate the story to a big city far away from Finland, and Toronto was a natural choice because of his long time love for the country and the city. Ice hockey is a big part of Nyholm’s life. He still plays in Finland’s third division. Besides literature, the other dominant form of art for Nyholm is music. On holiday he travels to Eastern Europe, Italy or Canada - depending where the most interesting bands are touring. |

Nyholm constructs a thrilling murder mystery with skilfully manoeuvred flashbacks: secrets are revealed through passages in both the past and the present. Nyholm develops the relationships and conflicts between a group of young people creditably. Sinun edestäsi vuodatettu is an incontestably promising debut detective story - Helsingin Sanomat Tuomas Nyholm plots together an intrigue in his debut novel that keeps the reader in its grip to the very last. The writer is in solid touch with his text, written in the style of an international thriller. All in all, a very good book. - Portaali |
