Pia Juul, b.1962, is one of Denmark’s foremost literary authors and the newest member of the prestigious Danish Literary Academy. She made her debut as a poet in 1985 and has since published a range of very well received poems. In 2001, her first collection of short stories was published, “My Terrible Face”, which was praised by readers and critics alike. With sharp dialogue, finesse, linguistic accuracy and characteristic humor bordering on the absurd, Juul has carved out a niche of her own in Scandinavian literature. In spring 2009, her second novel, “The Murder of Halland”, was published to fantastic reviews and regarded as a splendid renewal of the Danish crime novel.

"Pia Juul is a dazzling writer with natural, biting dialogue in top class. But the descriptions of the sun's play on the fiord are so beautiful that they could have been lifted from Albert Camus' "The Stranger"." - Extra Bladet (DK) “Juul is at the same time a traditionalist and avant-gardist; she deliberately sticks to familiar lyrical pictures, but succeeds in shedding light upon a new and often surprising view.” - Arbetarbladet “Her tone is intimate, warm and beautiful and at the same time grim and rough.” - Information (DK) |
