Trollklockan

A parentless, ten year old girl, Samira, escapes from a refugee house after a hasty decision of her deportation from Sweden. Glenn-Erik Johnsson and his newly arrived colleague from the police academy in Solna, Linn Antonsen, wrench out.
Samira loses her bicycle, but continues her escape in direction Oskarström. A place where the young girl knows there are people willing to help her.

Glenn and Linn are assisted by a dog patrol. During their search they find a corpse in an old cement foundry. It turns out to be the remains of a young girl, a discovery that explains a macabre disappearance in Mörkveden 23 years earlier. While the crime technicians arrive at the foundry, Glenn and Linn continue their search for Samira. The traces lead them towards the dark forest and the secluded farms nearby. On one the farms lives Folke Bäckagård, a loner. Samira gets lost and takes shelter from the cold and wet winter weather in an old farm. Folke finds the young girl hiding in his barn, and gets mad. But once he realizes the girl needs help, he gives her food and shelter.

In Folke Bäckagård’s house Samira spots a painting of the stone in the forest. Folke tells her the story of The troll clock. Samira believes that the stone can help her out of her misery and persuades Folke to bring her there. What she does not know, is that a whole gale is on its way towards them and that Folke has a murder on his conscience…

Trollklockan is a dark thriller from the deep woods of the Swedish countryside. Literary in its prose, filmic with strong dialogues, complex characters and an authentic ambience that makes one think of films such as Deliverance (Den sista färden), Änglagård or Jägarna.

Trollklockan is Mark Åkerblom’s first novel about Glenn-Erik Johnson and his colleagues at Torared Police Station.
