Author: Anu Holopainen

Anu Holopainen (born 1968) has lived her entire life in Helsinki. She considers it to be an ideal city for a nature lover: she is close to a variety of nature, including forests, fields and cows in pasture. Holopainen has all sorts of “nerdy” hobbies with her partner, Mikko, such as scifi films and playing PC, Xbox and Wii games. To counterbalance staring at the screen, the author enjoys the great outdoors, and exercises by hiking on forest trails. During summer holidays, Anu prefers to head for her cabin on the lakeside in South Savo.

Besides writing, Anu Holopainen for several years worked as a secretary for a construction company. One morning she decided that enough was enough, and changed her job to that of an editor. Anu Holopainen has written several books for young people and adults. The children's book With Both Feet (orig. Molemmin jaloin) was nominated for the Finlandia Junior Prize in 2006. Holopainen’s Autumn Land (orig. Syysmaa) is feminist fantasy at its best.

“The (book's) world view is thought provoking. Holopainen thankfully avoids writing in black-and-white: Among men, there are good, loyal characters. Holopainen is a clever and inventive storyteller."
- Onnimanni
“Holopainen writes believably about a society, in which women have been totally displaced.”
