'Daughters of the Mountain' is Anna Jörgensdotter’s first novel for adults and it is an exceptional and epic work. It begins in 1938 in a small community, Kungsberget, in the middle of Sweden. Three daughters grow up with an alcoholic father and a religious mother. The story begins like an action film where a slandered woman is burned to death. However, she continues to be an important part of the yarn that Anna Jörgensdotter, spins like a veritable Tolstoy.
'Daughters of the Mountain' is a story about oppression, social control, and roles in a farming society that is undergoing great change. Rights sold to: Sweden, Albert Bonniers France, JC Lattès Poland, W.A.B. |
