Anja Snellman (born 1954), née Kauranen, is one of Finland's best known and most respected authors, whose books generate lively debate from the moment they emerge and instantly rise to fill the bestseller lists. In 1981 the author published her successful debut novel, Sonja O was here, and in 2011 Anja Snellman will celebrate her 30th anniversary as a published author. Anja Snellman has written twenty novels in total, and her books have been translated into several languages. She has also written screenplays and taken part in various anthologies.

In addition to her career as a novelist, Anja Snellman works as a journalist and writes columns for several Finnish newspapers. For the past two years, Snellman has edited a media critical morning programme on Finland’s largest commercial TV channel. In the autumn of 2010, Snellman launched a TV discussion programme series, broadcast on Monday evenings, which carries her name. For her literary achievements, Snellman was awarded the Pro Finlandia medal in 2007.
